Can I use my Flexiable Spending Account (FSA) for Vitamins and Supplements?

Currently, FSAs can only be used to purchase Vitamins prescribed by their Doctor. Ochsner Vitamins will not require a physician’s prescription; therefore, FSAs will not be permitted for purchase. However, Ochsner is working with Virgin Health Miles to approve Vitamin & Supplement purchases as miles to help reduce your healthcare insurance premiums. If I purchase my Ochsner Vitamins online, can you ensure my credit card information is protected from outside sources?

OchsnerVitamins.com uses the same internet security and customer privacy software used for online banking so that you can have peace of mind that your personal information is protected.

Is it necessary to create an account to place an order?

You may shop as a guest without creating an account, if you desire.
But there are advantages to creating an account:

What do I do if my product is damaged?

In the event one of the products you receive is damaged due to poor handling by the carrier or shipping service, you have 7 days upon receiving the product to return it in order to receive a full refund and new product. Where should I store my vitamins?

All bottles should be kept in a climate controlled room. If your vitamins have been stored in a room that is above 80 °F for more than a week, please contact us at vitamins@ochsner.org to learn more about whether taking a particular product is safe.

What is the shelflife of my vitamins?

Each Ochsner Vitamin or Supplement has shelf-life of 2 years. The expiration date will be listed on the bottom of each bottle.

When should I take my vitamins?

Please read the label of each bottle for specific directions on when to take each Vitamin you purchase. The majority of vitamins should be taken with food to increase absorption and effectiveness.

If I take a multivitamin, why should I also have to take other vitamins, like Vitamin C, for example?

If I'm on medication, are there any Vitamins and Supplements I should be taking?

How do I know which Vitamins and Supplements I should be taking?

How many Vitamins should I take?

The answer to this question varies from person to person, so you should consult your Physician or Dietitian to find out your ideal dosage. Can I overdose on Vitamins?

It's very rare that you could overdose on vitamins but that doesn't mean that more is always better. Usually, if you take more vitamins than your body needs, the excess vitamins are excreted. Certain vitamins, such as vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, niacin and iron can damage the body if the dosage is extremely high.

Are vitamins ever dangerous?

Generally, over-the-counter vitamins (particularly multivitamins) are safe for everyone to take, but there are some people who react negatively to certain vitamins. Consult your doctor immediately if you show any signs of a negative reaction to a vitamin or supplement.

What is the policy if I would like to return my Vitamin?

If you would like to return your product for any particular reason, you may return it for a full refund (less shipping and handling).
